Studies indicate that most people in the United States will be in an auto accident at some point in their lives. Fortunately, physical therapy has been proven to be effective treatment for auto accident injuries. At Elite Physical Therapy, we are able to assist you with acute injures shortly after the accident, or chronic pain that has lingered for several months after an accident.
Injuries that commonly respond very favorably to physical therapy intervention include:
- Neck Pain / Whiplash
- Numbness and / or Tingling
- Back Pain/Sciatica
- Disc Injuries
- Shoulder / Arm Pain
- Leg / Knee Pain
The leading injury from rear end collision automobile accidents is whiplash, which can include such symptoms as stiffness, weakness, range of motion issues, headaches and pain to the shoulders, neck, back and joints. There may also be soft tissue injuries that often do not show up on x-rays, MRI or other diagnostic tests for which physical therapy is often beneficial.
Auto Accident Injury Coverage for Physical Therapy
Your treatments may be covered by personal injury protection (PIP) and/or Medical Pay (Med Pay) under your auto insurance policy or that of the other driver. Also, check with your health insurance provider to see if physical therapy is covered under your plan, in case you are not covered by PIP or Med Pay or to cover any gaps in coverage. Otherwise, you may need to pay for these sessions out of pocket and seek reimbursement from the other driver’s policy later on.
Please Note: Once you start physical therapy, it is important to attend all your scheduled sessions and follow all instructions for any at-home exercises you are prescribed. Otherwise, the at-fault party will have a reasonable cause to appeal a decision to pay for your physical therapy treatments. If that decision is reversed, you would become the party responsible for the expense of your treatment.
